Diana's first involvement with Borealis started with the group's original instrumentation as a flute trio,
in which she
played viola, and continued through it's reincarnations as a string trio and string quartet.
She teaches instrumental music in the Montpelier public schools, and has provided private
string instruction through the Montiverdi School of Music. She is currently principal violist
in the Vermont Philharmonic Orchestra, and first violinist in the Montelier Chamber Orchestra.
She has participated in chamber music workshops conducted by the Raphael Trio, and the New Jersey chapter of the American
String Teachers Association. She also has both played in, and served as music director for several
community theatre productions. She currently studies violin and viola with Evelyn Read at the University of Vermont.

Barry plays dual roles in Borealis, as both manager and second violinist. He has played
continuously in various chamber ensembles, including the Goldsbury String Quartet,
the String Trio Musique Joyeuse as well as Borealis, since 1986. He has
played with the Vermont Philharmonic Orchestra since 1974, where he
served as principal second violin, and has played in various community
orchestras and for numerous community theatre productions. He has attended
chamber music workshops run by the Rapheal Trio in Adamant, Vt. and the New Jersey chapter of the American
String Teachers Association, and is also studying with Evelyn Read at the University of
Vermont.

Margaret also plays both violin and viola. She's is the newest member of the enesemble and brings
to it a wealth of technical information and musical expertise. She currently teaches general music,
strings, orchestra and band in the Essex Town School system, and is a member of the Lyric Opera Theatre
Orchestra. She has studied with graduates of the Julliard School and has attended the Kato Havas workshops,
including two weeks of private instruction with Ms. Havas in England. She is also past president
of the Vermont Chapter of the American String Teachers' Association, and also teaches privately.

Polly has also seen Borealis change from string trio into string quartet, and
studied violin before taking up the 'cello. She is a member of the Vermont
Philharmonic Orchestra, and served as principal 'cellist in the Capitol City
Orchestra, and has played in the Harwood Community Concerts Orchestra. Like
Barry and Diana, she has participated in Raphael Trio workshops in Adamant,
Vermont, and the New Jersey ASTA string workshops. In addition, she has also
participated in summer music programs in Canada, as well as Burlington and
Brattleboro Vermont. She has studied under Melissa Brown of the Vermont
Symphony Orchestra, and currently studies with Bob Blais of Montpelier, Vermont
|
